Maine has among the highest recycling rates in the nation; it has become a national model for both environmental sensitivity and economic sensibility.

Recycling in Maine is handled primarily at the local level with regional drop-off sites.  This means that some planning and pre-sorting can make the job of getting your recyclables to the center a bit easier.  A stack of bins for each separate category allows you to just pick up the bins and put them in the vehicle without having to struggle with sorting.  Milk crates, 5 gallon plastic buckets or even cardboard boxes will work fine.

Be careful to follow your local guidelines to ensure that the right materials are recycled in the right bins.
