Recycle batteriesCost: FREE!Recycle used rechargeable batteries. Almost all rechargeable batteries use toxic chemicals like cadmium and lithium which do not belong in the landfill. They can be returned to retail sites around the country, see the link at left to find a store near you. Rechargeable batteries are commonly found in cordless power tools, cellular and cordless phones, laptop computers, camcorders, digital cameras, and remote control toys. The following battery chemistries are being recycled: Nickel Cadmium (Ni-Cd), Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH), Lithium Ion (Li-ion) and Small Sealed Lead (Pb). Did you know that automobile lead acid batteries have been one of the most recycled products in the world? The practice of actually reclaiming the toxic lead and the plastics is now being shifted to the 3rd world with unfortunate results however. See links at left. In Maine lead acid batteries should be returned to the retailer for a $10 refundable deposit. |
