Composting

Cost: $0 - $275

Install a composter in a convenient location and keep a container in your kitchen for organic waste.  Every so often you will need to empty the kitchen waste into the composter and turn it over a few times.  Yard trimmings and leaves can also be composted.

A simple effective composter like the Enviroycle is easy to use and maintain and has no bad odors.  Its roller base collects liquid compost "tea" which when diluted makes excellent natural fertilizer.

Using the compost in your garden recycles nutrients and saves landfill space. Composting is also a free and easy way to enrich your garden soil for healthy, organic flowers, plants, and vegetables. Yard trimmings and food residuals together constitute 23 percent of the U.S. municipal solid waste stream. That's a lot to send to landfills when it could be reused right at home!
